Volkswagen Tayron 7-seater and new Skoda Kodiaq SUVs to likely launch next year in India
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVIPL) is all set to launch two 7-seater SUVs in the coming months in the domestic market. It has been learnt that while Skoda will introduce the new Kodiaq in the Indian market, Volkswagen Tayron will also arrive in our country around the same time. We can expect both the 7-seater SUVs at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025 as they go on sale after the event.
The India-spec 2025 Skoda Kodiaq received the highest 5-star safety rating from the Euro NCAP with a score of 89 percent in adult protection and 83 percent in child protection. It will carry a plethora of advanced safety features in the form of 10-airbags, lane assist, autonomous emergency braking and driver fatigue detection. The 2025 Kodiaq 7-seater SUV would be sold as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit in India.
Petr Janeba, Brand Director at Skoda Auto India, while interacting with media revealed that the 2025 Kodiaq will be launching in the summer of next year with test units already arrived in the country. The 7-seater SUV has been spotted multiple times during its test runs on the Indian roads. Under the hood, it could be packed with a 2.0L TSI petrol engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. The 2025 Skoda Kodiaq will rival Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Volkswagen Tiguan.

Coming to the Volkswagen Tayron 7-seater SUV, it will be hitting the Indian roads around March 2025. Sources say that the Tayron will replace the Tiguan in the VW’s portfolio in India. The SUV made its global debut at the Beijing Motor Show earlier this year. The new Tayron is longer, spacious and bigger than the Tiguan while offering generous comfort and tech features such as 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, three-zone automatic climate control, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof and a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Though the global-spec model gets petrol, diesel, PHEV and MHEV powertrain setup, we expect the India-bound model to come only with a petrol engine. The mild-hybrid version could launch at a later stage. There is no choice of a manual transmission as all the variants get a DCT gearbox as standard. We are not too sure at the moment about the Volkswagen Tayron getting a 4WD system as standard fitment in India.

Based on the MQB Evo architecture, Volkswagen Tayron 7-seater SUV could be priced around Rs 35-40 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Akin to Skoda Kodiaq, it will be retailed via the CKD route. The Tayron will give fierce competition to Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Ford Endeavour.
