Isuzu has announced a mild-hybrid diesel variant for the D-Max and MU-X in Thailand, offering improved performance and greater fuel efficiency
Isuzu has introduced a new mild-hybrid diesel option for the D-Max and the MU-X in Thailand, promising better fuel efficiency and enhanced performance. Powered by a 2.2L turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, it delivers 161 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The engine features a variable turbocharger, improved combustion and operates more quietly than before.
The 2025 Isuzu duo are set to launch in Thailand next week. The mild-hybrid D-Max will be priced at THB 595,000 (Rs. 13.86 lakh) for the base variant while the MU-X will start at THB 1,194,000 (Rs. 27.82 lakh). It must be noted that an all-electric D-Max is scheduled to debut in 2025 globally and it was previewed via concept a while ago.
The Japanese manufacturer has not revealed the technical specifications of the 48-volt mild-hybrid system’s electric motor and battery pack though. On the other hand, the 2.2 MaxForce engine is paired exclusively with a new eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Compared to the regular diesel, the mild-hybrid offers 56 per cent more torque at startup and delivers a 10 per cent improvement in fuel economy.

The base 1.9L engine produces 148 hp while the top-spec 3.0L variant delivers 187 hp, both available with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. Isuzu has not disclosed details about the availability of the mild-hybrid powertrain in other markets, though it is expected to roll out internationally in 2025. Whether India will be part of it or not is yet unknown.
The new Isuzu D-Max mild-hybrid variant will compete with the similar spec Toyota Hilux and the Ford Range PHEV. The company is exploring multiple powertrain choices for its future lineup including fuel cell options but the availability will strictly depend on the requirements of each country. It is currently relishing exports in India while the domestic sales are mediocre.
