Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat is set to commence production of Toyota’s first battery electric vehicle for India in the spring of 2025
Suzuki and Toyota are strengthening their partnership with the introduction of a new battery-electric SUV, designed by Suzuki and supplied to Toyota. The production of this model is scheduled to commence at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant in India by the spring of 2025. Since the inception of their collaboration in 2016, the two automakers have fostered a strong and wide-ranging alliance.
The partnership between Suzuki and Toyota extends across multiple domains including vehicle manufacturing, model sharing and advancing the adoption of electrified mobility. This collaboration has facilitated the launch of co-developed vehicles in markets such as Japan, India, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Designed exclusively as a battery electric vehicle, this SUV is built on a dedicated skateboard platform and is gearing up for a global launch. Toyota highlights its agile handling, characteristic of BEVs, paired with a long cruising range. The model also promises a spacious and comfortable cabin along with an optional 4WD system to enhance versatility and performance.

This upcoming BEV is touted to deliver exceptional drivability even on challenging terrains. The vehicle’s BEV unit and platform were collaboratively developed by Suzuki, Toyota and Daihatsu Motor Corporation. Its design draws heavily from the Toyota Urban SUV concept unveiled last year. The five-seater will share several features with the soon-to-launch Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and is confirmed for the Indian market as part of its global rollout.
The eVX concept was first unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo and later showcased in a more polished form at the Tokyo Motor Show the same year. Its production version, the e Vitara, made its global debut in Milan last month and is set to hit the market in early 2025, following its official debut at the 2025 Auto Expo in Delhi.
