Samsung will start the One UI 7 update rollout early next year. The major OS upgrade will bring significant changes to UI and services. One of the major changes includes the termination of the Samsung DeX Windows app following One UI 7.
Recently, Samsung UK announced through DeX footnotes that the Windows app will “end support from One UI 7 version.” It means that Windows and PC users will lose access to the Samsung DeX application, but it doesn’t mean the end of service.
While Samsung encourages users to connect mobile phones and PC through the Link to Windows feature, the DeX standalone will still be accessible. You will continue to experience a PC-like experience through DeX using a keyboard and mice.
It looks like Samsung is promoting Microsoft services on Windows PC. DeX app is a great solution to mirror Galaxy screens on PCs and laptops. However, it would have harmed the requirement of Microsoft’s Link to Windows app.
Samsung and Microsoft have a pretty great collab in the software segment. Both companies have optimized their software to offer great experiences on Galaxy devices. The integration of a dedicated Copilot key is a recent example.
Edge Panel in One UI 7
Edge Panel is a decent sidebar offered in One UI software. Chinese OEMs tried much to replace the iconic sidebar functionality, but the experiences lag. Meanwhile, the One UI 7 is said to be eliminating Edge Panels downloads from the Galaxy Store.
However, Edge Panels that you’ve already downloaded will remain accessible. As the support is ending, the add-on panels won’t offer a seamless experience. Samsung could also offer updates to the already installed panel add-ons.
