Hyundai Ioniq 9 is the flagship three-row electric SUV based on the E-GMP skateboard platform; will have a lot in common with EV9

Hyundai has unveiled the first glimpses of the Ioniq 9’s interior, showcasing a spacious, nature-inspired design that embraces a lounge-like atmosphere. As Hyundai’s first all-electric three-row SUV, the Ioniq 9 aims to make a bold entrance into the large EV market, building upon the success of the Ioniq 5 crossover and Ioniq 6 sedan.

The interior promises a wealth of features focused on enhancing comfort, convenience, safety and entertainment. It is underpinned by Hyundai’s dedicated Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) which provides a spacious cabin that features a flat floor across all three rows enhancing its versatility and practicality. It also supports 800-volt charging capability.

Hyundai says the Ioniq’s ‘Aerosthetic’ silhouette gives way to a cabin custom-made for occupants’ relaxation. The Ioniq 9’s interior features soft, elliptical design elements such as the door trim and door handle. As a large, three-row all-electric SUV, the upcoming flagship offering is capable of seating up to seven occupants.

The road-going Hyundai Ioniq 9 is based on the Seven concept revealed in 2021 and is preparing to debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month. Hyundai hasn’t disclosed specifications regarding the battery packs and electric motors for the Ioniq 9 just yet. However, it is expected that the Ioniq 9 may borrow the Kia EV9’s drivetrain.

Thus, it could offer both 76.1 kWh and 99.8 kWh battery packs. This would likely translate to power output options spanning from 215 hp to 576 hp. At the front, the Ioniq 9 is set to feature a full-width LED light bar adorned with Hyundai’s signature ‘Parametric Pixels’ reminiscent of the design seen on its Ioniq siblings.

This design element is enhanced by additional pixel LEDs that vertically line the front fascia. The Ioniq 9’s side profile comes with thick D-pillars and squared-off wheel arches that create a strong stance. Hyundai notes that the traditional Hanbok inspires the crisscrossing lines on the body. At the same time, the overall form is drawn from the elegance of luxury boat hulls and their open interiors.
