Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is gearing up for what could be one of its biggest launches in recent years. The company has invited the media for an exclusive event on November 27, teasing the launch with the tagline “Watts Ahead”—a hint at Honda’s much-anticipated entry into the electric scooter market. All eyes are on what’s expected to be the Honda Activa Electric, a name that builds on the immense popularity of the iconic Activa brand in India.

What We Know So Far: The Honda Activa Electric

The Activa Electric has been in development for some time, and Honda seems to have crafted it with a strategic approach to keep production costs competitive. Reports suggest the Activa Electric will share multiple components with its petrol-powered counterpart, helping streamline production and potentially making it more affordable in the electric segment.

The scooter is rumored to feature a fixed battery setup similar to models in the upper tier of the e-scooter market. However, Honda has previously experimented with swappable battery technology for its three-wheeler e-scooters under the Honda e

project. If they bring this option to the Activa Electric, it could give users even more flexibility, aligning it with the brand’s European models, which come with removable battery packs.

While official specifications remain under wraps, the Activa Electric is expected to offer a range of about 100 km, with performance likely on par with the Activa 110. This range and performance level would place it squarely in competition with models like the Ather 450X, TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, and Vida V1.

Honda’s European Success with Electric Scooters

Meanwhile, Honda’s presence in the European electric scooter market has been steadily growing. At EICMA 2024, the company showcased the CUV e:—the latest addition to its e-scooter lineup in Europe. This model follows Honda’s EM 1e: and comes equipped with two 1.3 kWh removable batteries that provide a range of over 70 km on a single charge. The 6 kW (8 bhp) mid-drive motor on the CUV e: offers a top speed of 80 kmph and takes around 6 hours to charge from 0 to 100 percent.

Honda’s Vision for the Electric Future

Honda’s move into the electric two-wheeler space aligns with the brand’s ambitious plans to roll out a robust EV lineup in India, positioning itself as a key player in the country’s rapidly growing electric vehicle market. With the Activa Electric, Honda is poised to bring its hallmark reliability and trusted brand value to the electric segment.

The upcoming launch on November 27 promises to reveal much more about Honda’s EV vision, including detailed specs, design elements, and future plans for the electric scooter market. Stay tuned for all the latest updates on this electrifying launch—Honda’s journey into the EV future is just beginning, and the Activa Electric might just set a new standard for India’s electric two-wheelers.
