Delhi Schools to Close for Three Days Amid Rising Pollution Concerns

In a relief for school students and concerned parents, schools in Delhi will observe additional holidays this November. While the festival of Diwali has concluded, it has once again left the capital and surrounding NCR regions engulfed in hazardous pollution. Air quality levels have plummeted, with the AQI in some parts of Delhi surpassing 400—falling into the severe category and raising health concerns, especially for children. This alarming pollution level has already led to the cancellation of morning assemblies in several schools.

Closure Due to Chhath Puja on November 7

In light of Chhath Puja, Chief Minister Atishi has announced a public holiday on November 7, closing all schools across the state. This directive will provide a break for students and reduce exposure to the capital’s worsening air quality.

Awaiting Further Announcements on Pollution-Related Closures

As of now, the state government has not declared extended school closures due to pollution, though many parents and residents hope for immediate action. With pollution levels climbing daily, authorities continue to monitor air quality closely. If pollution continues to worsen, the state government may consider additional closures to protect children’s health.

Pollution Threatens NCR Cities

The pollution crisis isn’t limited to Delhi. Neighboring cities, including Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Noida, are also grappling with severe air quality issues. This regional crisis has sparked widespread concern, with parents anxious about the health risks for their children in such hazardous conditions.

Winter Vacation Details

The Delhi school calendar, released earlier this year, indicates a winter break for all schools from January 1, 2025, to January 15, 2025. This scheduled vacation will provide students with a reprieve from the capital’s persistent winter pollution.

With the pollution situation unfolding rapidly, students, parents, and educators are left hoping for swift measures to protect young ones from Delhi’s dangerous air.
