Kia Syros (Clavis) is expected to be introduced in the coming months in India and it will be packed with features and technologies
Kia India has revealed design sketches of its first SUV under the Kia 2.0 transformation strategy, showcasing its new Design 2.0 philosophy. According to Kia, this upcoming model draws design cues from both the EV9 and Carnival Limousine, aiming to deliver “unique lounge style premium interiors with futuristic features and an innovative seating layout”.
The model in question is undoubtedly a compact SUV which could go by the name Clavis or Syros. The dual teasers indicate the presence of tall pillars, a flat roofline with functional roof rails, L-shaped LED tail lamps mounted on the pillars, and a boxy tail section complemented by an upright front fascia with vertical LED Daytime Running Lights.
The Kia Syros or Clavis will come under the sub-four-metre category and courtesy of its large greenhouse, it is expected to offer a roomy interior and a spacious boot. It will likely be positioned between the Sonet and Seltos and will compete with popular compact SUVs such as Tata Punch, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Hyundai Exter, etc.

Speaking on the upcoming model, Gwanggu Lee MD & CEO of Kia India, said “This SUV has been indigenously designed grounds up with inspiration from unrealized needs of Indian customers. It has a unique, progressive SUV design language that doesn’t follow the conventional SUV design anymore. This SUV is designed to delight customers with its segment-first features, exceptional performance, and unparalleled comfort. We are confident that it will resonate with discerning Indian buyers who demand the best.”
It will likely be equipped with a 1.2L NA petrol engine developing 82 bhp and 114 Nm of peak torque. This engine could be mated to a five-speed manual or an AMT while a CNG variant may also be on offer. Kia may also bring in the 1.0L three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine in higher variants, pushing out 118 bhp and 172 Nm of torque.

The compact SUV will be sold in multiple transmission options. The features list will boast a 10.25-inch touchscreen display, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, ADAS tech, a 360-degree camera system, automatic climate control, ambient lighting system, in-car connected features, etc.
