Kia has raised the bar in the electric SUV segment with the 2026 Kia EV9 GT, unveiled at the 2024 LA Auto Show. This high-performance iteration of the EV9 aims to captivate enthusiasts while maintaining the practicality of a three-row SUV. With enhanced power, advanced suspension, and exclusive design elements, the EV9 GT promises to redefine the premium electric SUV experience.
Performance: Electrifying Speed and Power
Kia’s engineers have significantly boosted the EV9 GT’s performance, making it the brand’s most powerful three-row SUV to date. The GT variant features dual electric motors—a 160 kW motor at the front and a 270 kW motor at the rear—delivering a combined output of 501 bhp. This marks a 122 bhp increase over the EV9 GT-Line.
The result? A blistering 0-100 kmph sprint in just 4.3 seconds, 0.7 seconds faster than the GT-Line. To complement this raw power, Kia has fitted upgraded brakes with GT-badged neon green calipers, ensuring precise stopping power.
Advanced Suspension and Tech
The Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) system introduces multiple driving modes, allowing the driver to fine-tune shock damping, steering, and brake feel. A dedicated GT mode, activated by a neon green button on the steering wheel, stiffens the dampers for track-level cornering capabilities.
The EV9 GT also debuts Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) technology, simulating traditional gear shifts for a more engaging driving experience. Borrowed from Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N, this system allows drivers to “shift gears” manually using paddle shifters, adding a sporty edge to the electric drive.
Safety and ADAS Features
The SUV comes equipped with Kia’s advanced ADAS suite, offering features like parking collision avoidance, frontal collision prevention, cyclist and pedestrian detection, navigation-based smart cruise control, and blindspot monitoring. These systems ensure a safe yet thrilling driving experience.
Design: A Visual Statement
Kia has meticulously crafted the EV9 GT’s aesthetics to match its performance. The SUV rides on 21-inch GT-exclusive alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance Continental tyres. Neon green brake calipers and distinctive GT trim elements further distinguish its exterior.
Inside, the cabin features GT-exclusive Dark Gray and Black leatherette upholstery with Alcantara suede inserts. Neon green accents adorn the seats, steering wheel, and dashboard, creating a sporty yet luxurious ambiance. The cockpit is a tech-lover’s dream, with futuristic controls and premium materials.
Will India See the 2026 Kia EV9 GT?
The Kia EV9 was introduced to the Indian market earlier this year as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) at a price of ₹1.29 crore (ex-showroom). With the EV9 GT expected to carry a premium price tag, its Indian debut will likely follow the same CBU route.
Given India’s growing appetite for luxury EVs, the EV9 GT could find a niche audience among performance-oriented buyers. However, its high price and potential range trade-offs may limit its appeal to a select few.
Pricing and Launch Timeline
While Kia has yet to reveal the price or single-charge range for the EV9 GT, it is expected to command a substantial premium over the standard EV9, which starts at $54,900 (approximately ₹46.38 lakh) in the US. The 2026 Kia EV9 GT is slated for a global launch in the second half of 2025, with India possibly joining the list of markets later.
